Emergency Airbase, Almondsbury, Bristol.

D J Foley have been instructed to manage the new £4 million Emergency Air Base located just North of Bristol, adjacent to the M4/M5 interchange. This state of the art facility is the new home of the Great Western Air Ambulance and the regional Police helicopter and replaces an older facility at Filton Airport.

The facility comprises of a 73 acre site with a purpose built hanger capable of holding and servicing three helicopters. The facility also has ‘Control rooms’ for both the police and ambulance services.

David Foley commented ‘We are very proud to have been asked to manage this brand new facility. It is probably the most complex management instruction we have undertaken, due to the fact that is a 24 hour, 7 days a week operational facility. The hanger itself has the most up to date building management systems whilst externally we have to deal with issues such as fuel storage systems and bird avoidance systems. The air ambulance or police helicopter may need to take off at any time, day or night and in any weather conditions. It is our job to help make sure that this can happen”.
